Lily Beth Redick and Ethan Thurmon have been named SCPS Athletes of the Week for February 21st through 27th. Each of these stand-out athletes have been highlighted in the sections below.
Lily Beth Redick won 3 matches last week with wins over Calvary, Aquinas, and Screven County while also having to move up to #1 in singles due to an injury. Lily Beth has been playing tennis since 6th grade and says her favorite memory is traveling on the bus to state matches with the team and getting to laugh and hang out together at the hotel. Lily Beth says that her goal for the season is to go undefeated in her singles matches during region play. When asked what it means to be named SCPS AOTW, Lily Beth said, “I am so excited to be named SCPS Athlete of the Week, it has been on my high school bucket list! Being recognized makes all the hard work more than worth it. Our head coach, Coach Shepherd, as well as our other coaches Coach Thurmon, Coach Biemiller, and Coach Redick deserve a shout-out for all their hard work and efforts to make us the best players we can be! ”
Ethan Thurmon won 3 matches last week, taking home victories over Calvary, Aquinas, and Screven County. Ethan has been playing tennis for 6 years and says his favorite memory with the team is the match against Calvary last year and all of the long bus rides back from away games. Ethan says his favorite part of being an SCPS athlete is the community the school has and the ability it gives him to make new friends and meet new people. When asked what it means to be named SCPS AOTW, Ethan said, “To be named SCPS athlete of the week is an honor. I appreciate the opportunity to be recognized for my hard work and dedication.”
