On a cold and rainy Friday the Raider Football team took the field in a rematch with rival Calvary in the first round of the state playoffs. The Raiders and Cavaliers locked into a back and forth contest trading score after score leading to a 21-18 halftime deficit for the Raiders. However, the second half was a different story. The Raiders defense found new life getting consecutive stops and eventually allowing the Raiders to take the lead 24-21. After a defensive stalemate the Cavaliers found themselves with the ball on their own half yard line with just under 2 minutes to play. The Raiders defense needed one last stop and that is exactly what they got. Calvary turned the ball over on downs and the Raiders punched in the touchdown with 45 seconds to go giving the Raiders the 31-21 win and moving them to the 2nd round of the GHSA state playoffs. Coach Woodward said afterwards “We played our best game with zero turnovers and our defense stepped up the second half shutting out Calvary's offense. Our offense converted two fourth downs along with a fake punt for a first down. We ended up scoring on all 3 of the drives where we had fourth down conversions. Special thanks goes out to our band, cheerleaders, and our huge fan base for cheering us on through the tough weather conditions”. Marquell Brown had 22 carries for 145 yards and 2 tds’, along with two catches for 18 yards. Spencer Robicheaux had 145 all-purpose yards, and two rushing touchdowns. Peyton Cromwell had 15 tackles, 1 sack, 2 PBU, and 1 forced fumble. The Raiders will now look ahead to another local showdown as they will head to Savannah Country Day for their 2nd round matchup on Friday!
