The SCPS soccer season is now in full swing and you couldn’t ask for a better start to the season. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams are off to a very strong start with only one loss apiece. The Raiders were hoping to keep this fast start going as they prepared for two tough home games last week against the Liberty County High School Panthers and Savannah Arts Academy. Unfortunately, the Raiders were only able to take on Liberty County as bad weather forced the cancellation of the game against Savannah Arts later in the week.
Both teams took on Liberty County High School at home last Tuesday with both teams coming away with victories. The Lady Raiders took home a very strong win, defeating the Panthers by a score of 12-1. Last week’s SCPS Athlete of the Week Lloya Stevens was instrumental in the win, taking on the scoring load for this contest and bringing her season total up to eight goals by the end of the game. The boys’ team also came away with a victory after a hard-fought contest with the Panthers ended the game with a 4-2 win for the Raiders. Freshman J.T. Gard scored three goals and tallied one assist in the win for the Raiders.
Now the teams begin to prepare for another big stretch of games this week as they travel to take on Woodville Tompkins on Tuesday before returning home to face Sol C. Johnson on Thursday.
